Overview

Reggie Nelson burst on the scene this past fall and was a major reason the Gators were able to win a national championship. Nelson tried to get into Florida after a great prep career, but didn't meet academic requirements. He was turned away once again after a stint at Coffeyville C.C., when it was discovered he was missing some math credits. But he finally got in and earned playing time. He was the focus of a lot of attention prior to the BCS title game because he lost his mother to breast cancer around Christmas.

Strengths

Nelson has great size and speed for the position. He is lean and muscular with the frame to continue to add bulk. He plays with excellent speed and quickness on the field and really explodes on the ball instinctually. Once the ball is in the air, he shows great leaping ability and excellent hands to pluck the ball from the air. He's also a physical player who seems to enjoy laying the lumber. He's a leader on and off the field and is a hard worker.

Weaknesses

Nelson sometimes plays a bit too recklessly. He is always looking to make the big hit or create turnovers, and sometimes fails to make the play as a result. Nelson has great football instincts, but isn't quite the student of the playbook he needs to be.

Projection

The big debate right now is which FS goes first, Nelson or fellow SEC FS LaRon Landry. If it comes down to the Combine and Pro Day workouts, Nelson may gain the advantage as he is the more natural athlete. Either way, Nelson will be gone by the middle of the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

I'm wary of Reggie Nelson because he had one incredible season, but he didn't put together a large body of work. He made a lot of plays for Florida, but a lot of those plays can be attributed to the talent around him. I think he has the ability to be a very good player, but I don't know if he'll fit into any system.

Best safety in draft, has no big weakness other than his size which can improve. ALL he does is make plays!

The Flavor of the month, First u loved him cause he kept Making Clutch INT for the Gators then u Felt Sorry for him when he lost his Mother. A great Player though and a Ball Hawk not as good as Griffin or Landry and will fall behind them after the Combine but a Legit First Round Pick.
