OverviewCalvin Bannister is a very nimble CB, but at Hampton he was often picked on due to the fact that most teams threw away from Bain. His Pro Day Results illustrate his raw athtletic ability.
40 Yrd Dash: 4.43 20 Yrd Dash: 2.56 10 Yrd Dash: 1.50 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 23 Vertical Jump: 39 1/2 Broad Jump: 10'2" 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.07 3-Cone Drill: 7.21 StrengthsSpeed and quickness, above average instincts, decent ball skills and packs a pretty good punch for a tiny player. His build is compact and solid, he was strong enough to put up 23 reps at 225. He's not a household name, but most opposing offensive coordinators are in agreement -- Bannister is one of the the finest man coverage defenders in the NCAA Division 1-AA.
If not for torn ankle ligaments that cost him four games in 2005, Bannister could have garnered All-American recognition as a junior. In eight games that season, he allowed opposing receivers to catch only eight passes for 57 yards. WeaknessesHe is small and built like a sprinter rather than a long limbed Mel Blount/Rod Woodson/Champ Bailey protypical CB. Some wonder how he would deal with big, strong fast WRs week in and week out.
ProjectionHe has some similar qualities to the late Darrent Williams and if a team gets him late day 2 thay may have a real find on their hands.
