Overview

Davis has made a habit of being in the oppenent's backfield, with 26.5 career sacks at UCLA. Davis was named 2nd team All Pac-10 as a junior after a ridiculous 2006 campaign, and 2nd team All Pac-10 again in 2007. He was 4th in the NCAA and tied for first in the Pac-10 for sacks. Excels at rushing the passer.

Strengths

Davis uses great quickness and speed to rush the passer. He has good moves and simply beats his tackle around the corner into the backfield. His 17.5 TFL and 12.5 sacks in 2006 gave him a second home in the backfield. In 2007, he frequently faced double and even triple teams and as a result, his stats dropped some. As a projected linebacker in the NFL, scouts can look to his 2005 season, when he selfishly moved to OLB for a period before returning to DE due to injuries. Was the catalyst in UCLA's huge upset over USC to close out the 2006 regular season with 2 sacks. Had a wonderful combine in which he weighed in at 252 pounds, 18 more than what he weighed at UCLA. He also ran a 4.72, one one-thousandth of a second behind consensus top DE Chris Long. He has a never ending motor, and could easily move to the 3-4 DE/LB hybrid.

Weaknesses

Davis has very little experience as a linebacker and has VERY limited experience in coverage. Bruce has the speed to become an effective DE/LB hybrid but lacks the experience that some of the others have.

Projection

Davis is a very good player who will get to the QB no matter where he plays. If Davis does not get drafted by a team who runs the 3-4, look for that team to use him as the Broncos used Elvis Dumervil his rookie year, on 3rd down passing situations. If Davis can bulk up even a little bit more, it will greatly help his stock. I see him being taken in the 3rd-4th round.

Possible late 1st day pick. He is quick and a great technique. The one thing is that he clearly doesnt have the size to be an NFL DE. He does have experience at LB and will problably play OLB in the League. Could be better in the 3-4 as an every down OLB.
