OverviewIn High School Davis rushed for 2,389 yards and 28 touchdowns on 350 carries as a senior at Douglass High. He also rushed for 300 yards or more in 2 games as a senior. James Davis was the #42 player in the nation, #7 running back in the nation, and #16 player in Georgia by Rivals.com. In college, 2005, he was 4th in the ACC in rushing, best among any freshman, and had 9 rushing TD’s. As a sophomore he was a 1st Team All ACC selection gaining 1187 yards, averaging 91.3 yards per game. Davis gained more than 5.8 yards per carry and had 17 rushing TD’s. Although not utilized well in 2007, he scored 11 TD’s and had another solid season rushing.
Measured heavier, but ran slower, than expected at the Combine. LATE NOTE: Ran much better times at the Clemson Pro Day (4.45/4.49) than he did at the Combine (4.60). StrengthsDecent speed and downhill power. Very durable player with nice size. Shows good burst to and through a hole. Shows good patience as a runner with good instincts. Has shown decent hands this year. Solid in all phases. Has some leadership skills.
WeaknessesWas not used much by Clemson in 2007, and really was another victim of the 2008 Clemson meltdown. Not one who was noted as an instigator in Coach Bowden's decline, however. Not elite in any facet of the game. Not as explosive off the snap as you'd like. Not a noted blocker.
Projection6-7th rounder, even though he is among the top senior backs available.

Date/Time: 12/20/2008 - 11:37AM CST Predicted Round: Round 2 it stinks to be james davis when it comes to the draft. Cj Spiller took many carries away and returning for his senior season makes him a 3rd or 4th round pick in many peoples eyes. Yet, in a draft class which seems weak in RB's,at least from the seniors davis ranks among top 5, and with a strong combine he can push himself into the mid second round or late 1st day pick.
