Overview

2008 -- Walter Camp All-American & Player of the Year, Consensus All-American, Second Team All-Big 12

Strengths

College Football's all-time winningest QB. Tremendous intangibles. Intelligent and tough, and inspires teammates to play above their heads. Never quits and finds a way to rise to the occasion late in games. Very hard worker who studies his opponents as well as Texas' game plan. Can stick short to intermediate throws. Quick release. Excellent runner with deceptive quickness and speed. Great kid who's easy to root for.

Weaknesses

Borderline NFL-caliber arm. Looped a lot of lolipops to wide-open receivers at Texas, which won't get it done in the NFL. Doesn't throw a good deep ball. Mechanics fall apart with pressure in his face. Throws picks when pressured. Not big or rugged-looking. Knocked out of the National Championship game on the first series.

Projection

Will probably be a high pick based on his accomplishments, maybe even a first-rounder, but shouldn't be. Has some Joe Montana in him, but has less of an arm than Joe did. Ideally, will be drafted later by a good team that will let him sit and learn for several years. Smart and competitive enough to hold a clipboard, and may someday emerge. Wish he could have competed vs. Alabama; was off to a good start.

My prediction: Colt and Bradford will be the only QB's with consistent starting jobs in this class

I think he will translate to the NFL just fine. The Packers have a lot of short quick passes and let the wideouts gain the yards after the catch, so he would work best in an offense similar to that.

Great college quarterback, but won't translate well to the NFL. Makes his living on short quick passes. Doesn't have to make a lot of NFL throws and probably doesn't have the arm strength to make them. Should be interesting to watch in the Senior Bowl and the Combine.
