Overview

Jeff is a 2006 graduate of Brookhaven High School in Columbus, Ohio where The Ohio News Network/Ohio High Magazine All-Ohio team tabbed him. He was also a PrepStar All-American and listed as the 66th best recruit in the nation by ESPN.com. Jeff was rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com and ranked the 11th-best prospect from Ohio and 19th-rated athlete in the country. Jeff made 25 catches for 801 yards, recording 32 yards per catch and scored 13 touchdowns during the regular season in 2005. He was selected for the Ohio North/South Classic game, and recorded the best 40-yard dash and vertical leap among tight ends at the Los Angeles NIKE Training Camp. Jeff also ran track and qualified for the state meet in the 100 meters, 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay. He once ran a 10.6 in the 100 meters.

At Illinois, Jeff earned honorable mention freshman All-America honors by The Sporting News in 2006, after playing in all 11 games, and starting five at tight end. He finished the 2006 season with 16 catches, tied for the second most on the team. In 2007, Jeff he moved to WR and recorded 12-243-3. In 2008, he 20-352-4. This past season, he recorded 10-156-2.

Strengths

Very good athlete, who is a huge WR with acceptable speed. Good blocker for a WR, and has been used a 2nd TE. Can stretch the field, and has had some very nice games for the Illini over the years.

Weaknesses

There is just something missing here. Never really exploded the way his package suggests he should have. Some question his hands, others his heart and desire. A tweener for the next level, who looks like a poor man's Ben Watson--i.e. decent pass catcher, and questionable blocker. May never pan out unless used in a system where the drag route is employed with great frequency. Can be a decoy, but so can just about anybody. Must find out what is missing in the psyche stuff at the Combine--if he gets there--and determine whether he can/will play or not.

Projection

7th-priority UDFA at this point. Could go as high as the 4th with a great combine or all-star appearance.
