OverviewAthletic, dynamic player who has persevered through two season-ending leg injuries (broken leg ended his 2007 before it started, and an ACL-tear against Purdue cut his 2008 short after just 7 games) to play 13 games in 2009. Named to Ted Hendricks Award watch list. Vocal and respected leader by coaches and teammates. Was rated the top-Ohio defensive end prospect when recruited by the Buckeyes.
StrengthsGood agility and speed for size. Rushes the QB well and gives effort to the whistle. Plays his position and will 'stay home' to prevent the reverse or screen - reads plays well. Able to drop in coverage and get into the flat zone. Plays with hands up (got pick versus Illinois this way) on the rush. Decent against the run and can play either side.
WeaknessesWhile a solid rusher, often comes in high and doesn't get as many tackles as he could. Inconsistent play has been a concern, as is the toll of two leg injuries on his durability. Needs better hand technique to disengage blockers when initial moves are countered.
Projection7th round.
