OverviewGreg Middleton emerged as a sophomore to attract attention from professional scouts Middleton led the nation in sacks with 16 in 2007; posting 50 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 4 passes broken up, forcing 1 fumble and returning a fumble for a touchdown.
Some had projected him as an early second round pick at one point, which has changed drastically. In the two seasons since his breakout 2007, Middleton has registered just 56 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. There have been issues with Middleton off the field (and questions about his effort on it) that may scare some scouts away. Strengthsiddleton isn't slow, but he doesn't really qualify as a speed rusher either. He uses a quick first step coupled with a good array of pass rushing moves to beat opposing blockers. He is, however, extremely strong -stronger than his frame would indicate. He appears to be at his best on obvious passing downs when he can explode off the line and bull rush over helpless tackles. His swim and rip moves are top-notch, he has a powerful bull rush and usually takes good angles.
WeaknessesVery hot and cold, can look disinterested if the play isn’t a pass or a run to his side. He doesn’t always pursue if the play is away from him. He has been outplayed by fellow DE Kirlew this year.
ProjectionMiddleton is a work in progress, he'll need plenty of careful coaching, however someone will take a chance on his talent in the 5th or 6th round. Now if he has an amazing combine he could well be overdrafted in the 4th or even the 3rd.
