Overview

2nd Team All Big 10 in 2007, Heisman candidate in 2008. Incredibly consistent throughout this past season with 100 yards or more rushing in every game except against Wisconsin when he was slowed by the stomach flu, and against Iowa's 2nd best rushing defense in the Big 10.

NOTE: Javon's stock slid dramatically over the course of his senior season as concerns about his size and lack of breakaway speed began to dog him.

LATE NOTE: Those fears were partly allayed at the Michigan State Pro Day where Javon ran the fastest short shuttle of anyone in the 2008 post season (3.89) as well as runing his 40s in respectable 4.50/4.51 seconds and his 3-cone drill in 6.66 seconds.

Strengths

Explosive runner who has the threat to take it to the house at least once every game. Incredibly shifty and makes even the best of tacklers miss. Can also run with power and does a great job of punching the ball in around the goal line. Very consistent and now has been MSU's main man for four straight seasons. Reminds me a lot of current Houston Texan Steve Slaton. Ringer would be best used in a zone blocking scheme where he could hit the whole hard, make one cut, and go. Hits the whole very quickly and has solid vision in reading his blocks. Good receiver, but usually comes out on obvious passing plays.

Weaknesses

Sometimes tries to do too much and turns a 3 to 4 yard gain into a loss. Very small for a running back and some durability issues as far as an every down back, however he seems to have answered most of those concerns this year. Doesn't have the upside of a top NFL prospect. Needs to work on picking up blitzes and running downhill. Lacks breakaway speed.

Projection

He could be one of those jack of all trades running backs in the NFL, a Leon Washington of sorts. I could see him catching screens, rushing 10-15 times per game, and also making a big impact on special teams. Probably won't be a franchise back, but definitely worth a selection in the 4th or 5th round.

Predicted Round: Round 1

Can go as high as 1st but might drop down to 2nd. Good ground it out type of back, should fit any system and produce a 3.5 or 4 yard a carry.
