Overview

Strengths

Arguably the most improved player in college football. Went from being a raw talent in '08 to a thinking quarterback in '09. Possesses all the requisite measurements, including size, intelligence, athletic ability and a strong arm. Can hit all the throws, and can pass with mustard or touch. Can be very accurate. Great deep ball. Poised in the pocket, senses the rush and can move to buy time. Good runner, but usually runs to throw. Will not hesitate to lower his shoulders to pick up a first down. Really grasped the offense this season and understands defenses. Makes smart reads and distributes the ball to many different targets and points on the field. Tough and a gamer.

Weaknesses

Only a junior and didn't really get it before this season. Can be erratic in his delivery and footwork. Good but not sensational arm. Didn't win many games over his career, but this may be more due to a horrific defense behind him rather than anything he did poorly.

Projection

Could have been a legitimate Heisman candidate next year, but carries a solid first-round grade and may be the first quarterback selected, so declaring is the right decision.

I truly feel that the critics of Clausen are primarily in two groups: 1) Haters that are Bradford and McCoy fanboys, and 2) Rams fans that want Suh, and hope to be able to pursue Locker in the 2011 draft. Clausen has as much potential as any QB that came out last year, and a stronger arm than Sanchez.

Predicted Round: Round 1

Top QB in the draft and in the running for #1. Very good arm, deep ball accuracy is good, and he played in a pro style offense under a vastly experienced NFL OC.
