Bates left Eugene after fetting into an altercation, according to reports Bates was antogonized by a guy who was drunk and hit him. The police were called and they investigated. Coach Bellotti was mad that Bates was at a party before spring ball. This all happened before his junior season. He suspended Bates indefinitely. The police investigated and found out that it was a mutual fight. The case was dismissed, and I was supposed to start again that year. Coach Bellotti allowed him to return and Bates actually played in the first two games that season.
