OverviewThe controversial former Sooner QB came to SHSU after being dismissed from Oklahoma for taking pay for hours not actually worked at a Norman car dealership. However his talent was never in doubt, Passed for 2,018 yards on 10 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman for the Sooners and led Oklahoma to victories over: Kansas State, Kansas, Baylor, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State during the regular season and was named Most Valuable Player in the Holiday Bowl, after passing for 229 yards in 17-14 victory over Oregon. But his top performance was 20 of 28 for 298 yards in 36-30 victory over Texas A&M.
In 2007 Bomar transferred and started in 9 games in which he played passing for 2209 yards no 291attempts, completing 172 for a 59.1% 10TDs and 6 Ints. Missed final two games with knee injury he was named All-Southland Conference honorable mention was ranked second in the SLC and eighth nationally in total offense (290.6 yards per game) injury rushing 87 times 406 yards, 7 TD for a 4.7 yard average. In his most recent outing Rhett Bomar completed 22-of-29 passes for 340 yards and five touchdowns and added four carries for 20 yards and a sixth score as Sam Houston defeated Gardner-Webb, 49-33 in Boiling Springs, N.C. The senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, became only the second QB in Sam Houston history to pass for five TDs and run for a sixth in a single game, joining All-American Dustin Long from 2004. Bomar left the game after 2 ½ minutes in the third quarter with Sam Houston up 49-10. He led the Bearkats on scoring drives on each of SHSU’s first five possessions. StrengthsVery athletic with an above average arm. Solid at seam and crossing routes, passes well on the run and rolling out.
WeaknessesThough Guido Merkins,Dustin Long and Josh McCown are all former SHSU QBs and as good as he looked at OU there will be concerns about level of competition and his character.
ProjectionAs high as the 4th if he can overcome character concerns all the way to UDFA if he comes of badly in interviews.

Date/Time: 04/24/2009 - 9:04AM CDT Predicted Round: Round 4 Has the potential to be the best QB in the draft. Will probably need at least a year before starting. Reminds me a lot of Brett Favre without the durability. Rate This Player |
