Overview

Javarris Williams concluded his college career after 43 games, 849 carries and 4329 yards, he started as a true freshman in 2005, getting 872 yards on 202 carriers (4.3 average) with four TD. He also had twelve receptions for 93 yards. He was voted to the second team All Ohio Valley Conference squad. Playing in eleven games during the 2006 season, Williams recorded 1,233 yards on 245 (5.0) carriers with 11 TD; also caught 13 passes for 210 yards and one TD. He repeated as All Conference second team selection. In 2007 Williams rushed for 1,187 on 195 carriers (6.1) with 12 TD. He also received 14 catches for 240 yards.

Similar in build and running still to former Terrapin Lance Ball; Williams was 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, [the OVC is a top 5 FBS conference in terms of talent], and is a legitimate mid-round prospect because of his size and underrated quickness as an inside runner. Had an arm span of 31 1/2 inches and a hand span of 9 1/4 inches at the combine. And was impressive in practices for the East-West Shrine Game.

Participated in the NFL Combine and displayed good athleticism. Ran a 4.52 official forty time with a 33.5" vertical and a 10'8" broad jump.

LATE NOTE: Did some of the testing at the TSU Pro Day, and did a 4.73 short shuttle and 7.26 three-cone drill.

Strengths

Williams is a powerful runner with good quickness to and through the hole. A solidly built 'no-nonsense' style of runner. Faster than he looks- 4.52 at the combine, one of the stronger backs he did 25 reps and looks the part physically with one of the better power/speed ratios at the combine. His 33.5" vertical and 10'8" broad jump were also evidence of his lower body strength.

Weaknesses

Not as loose hipped or as polished as a blocker or receiver as scouts would like in a elite 3-down back; not eye-popping in any one particular area also gained much of his yards behind LT Cornelius Lewis and C Cecil Newton who are amongst the top offensive linemen in the FCS.

Projection

If he catches the ball very well at his pro day he could move a round or more, the late 4th is unlikely but not impossible, if he were bigger, faster or more elusive he'd be headed for the day 1/day 2 cusp; he's bigger than Donald Brown and almost as fast, but his lack of great lateral quickness and rawness keep him in the mid to later rounds.
