Overview

JaMarcus Russell is one of the biggest QB prospects in the nation. He is an outstanding athlete, but is not really a "running QB". He can improvise when needed and is an effective runner, but his real claim to fame is his arm strength. I haven't seen anyone with a stronger arm than Russell.

The Mobile, Alabama, native is also remarkable in that he's held down the starting QB position with solid prospects in Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux sitting behind him. Russell also served as a counselor for the Manning Passing Camp and learned a lot working each day with Peyton and Eli Manning.

Strengths

Russell is big and is able to locate his receivers. His athletic ability allows him to move around the pocket and run when the play breaks down. Once he's running, he's very hard to bring down. He doesn't look fast, but he's a long strider and Bama's Wallace Gilberry was surprised at just how fast he is on the field.

But Russell prefers to stay in the pocket where he can show off his big arm. He has the strength to throw it the length of the field if needed. He displays a nice touch on the deep balls and can take some of the heat off the shorter passes. He gets the ball where it needs to go and his accuracy has improved dramatically in his junior season. He sets up well and shows solid footwork.

Russell is also a leader on the team. He's not a rah-rah guy, but he's a leader by example and the team rallies around him. He's good in the classroom and active in the community--the type of good citizen that is needed in the NFL.

Weaknesses

Russell still needs to improve his decision-making. He'll try to make throws that he shouldn't at times. Mechanically, he's a bit stiff, looking like he's shotputting the ball at times. His delivery is slowish as well. Far too often he's throwing the ball off his back foot. It generally gets where it's going, but that's not a good trait to carry to the NFL where the players are faster and smarter.

Projection

If Russell comes out early (and LSU probably won't discourage it as they'd risk losing Perrilloux to transfer if Russell returns), he's a first or second round pick at this point, depending on what other QBs declare. Many have Russell, Henne, and Brohm listed in some order as the top three QBs in the junior class, all of them ranked behind Brady Quinn in the senior class. Look for him to shine at the Combine and climb the draft boards in the post-season.

How many players have we seen over the years that were "The Perfect Prospect", I also recall another QB who was "better than Peyton Manning" his name was Ryan Leaf, where is he now? coaching golf. Akili Smith,Cade Mcnown,Heath Shuler, Andre Ware, Todd Marinovich. The truth is his footwork, decision making, accuracy, and work ethic are questionable at best.Everyone is sayign you can correct his footwork and and decision making, but the truth is the Raiders will probably draft him and he will be a wasted talent. The Raiders can't coach him and correct his problems he nedds a real team. The first 5 years of his career will probably be dismal. Then maybe he will leave the Raiders or Al Davis will die and the Raiders will start to win.

Is the best QB in the draft. Will have a brilliant career, maybe a future HOF player. His arm Strength is un matched by any player ever to play.

Prototypical size and amazing arm strength. Has had some injury concerns in the past. Will force balls into coverage and when under pressure. His stature and arm strength draws many comparisons to Daunte Culpepper.

The "PERFECT" QB prospect, 6-6 260lbs 4.7 40 ridiculouse arm strength(85yds)completed 68% in very tough SEC, the only negative scouts seem to point out is his decision making, however he has a great comp% and has never thrown double digit INTs in a season, so you can rule out any questions about his decision making, best QB prospect since Peyton Manning(but has better measurables than Manning) and remains the PERFECT PROSPECT, he is a top 3 lock and likely the #1 overall draft pick

An ideal prototype NFL quarterback. His size, strength, arm strength, athletic ability all scream top 5 overall pick. Russell has outstanding arm strength. Even better than Michael Vick's or Daunte Culpepper's arms. JaMarcus can easily flick the ball 50-70 yards down field. His accuracy isn't all that bad either. He does need to learn to take some off of it when throwing short ranges. But all in all his arm is ideal. The size and strength of JaMarcus is also outstanding. Standing in at 6'6 and 240lbs. he can break tackles with ease and also make throws with defenders hanging on to him. His athletic ability allows him to make throws on run better than any other prospect coming out, he also has enough, not elite, but enough speed to gain the first down when needed. JaMarcus Russell is going to make a team very, very happy. He can be a franchize QB. Key word there is CAN. The one major flaw in Russell's game is that his work ethic might not be elite. Besides his accuracy and inconsistent throws, his work ethic is most problematic. Accuracy and decison making can be coached up but his work ethic can't. His future and progression are totally in his hands.

JaMarcus has literally come out of nowhere as the consensus #1 overall. The strenght of his performance in the Sugar Bowl vs Notre Dame has sent him on a meteoric climb. I'm not sure he can live up to that hype, but the Raiders HAVE to take him #1. That said, they will probably draft LeRon Landry. How's Huff working out for you in Oakland? My jaw hit the floor last year when they passed on Leinart AND Cutler, and I can't imagine them making that mistake again.

A lot like Warren Moon, I have heard the Comparisons with Daunte Culpepper due to the fact that he is 6'6 260, a big QB like Daunte, But he plays a lot like Warren Moon A big Strong Armed QB that Can move around if a play breaks down but prefers to stay in the Pocket and wait for a WR to get open. Has Great Pocket Presence he has the Timer in his head that u look for allowing him to take less sacks, since he knows when to tuck it and try to make something with his legs or to throw the ball away and live to play another down. Makes some mistakes but nothing that cant be fixed. Best QB Prospect to come out since Peyton Manning in my Opinon.
