OverviewDwayne Bowe had impressive sophomore and junior seasons, and then benefitted from an emphasis on the passing game as a senior as he put up nearly 1000 receiving yards and 12 TD catches. Bowe followed up his impressive season with an outstanding performance at the Senior Bowl, where he was consistently the most impressive receiver in the practices.
StrengthsBowe has exciting size at the receiver position, playing even bigger than his 6'2"+ frame would indicate. Bowe runs very good routes and gets in and out of his cuts quite well for a big receiver, without needing to gather himself. He overpowers the smaller defensive backs who try to cover him and uses his body well to shield the ball from the defenders. After having lasik surgery prior to his senior year, he really shows great ball skills, high-pointing the ball and using his large hands to pluck the ball. He is an outstanding blocker as well, famous for taking out two Arkansas defenders on the same play this past fall.
WeaknessesThe biggest knock on Bowe will be his lack of speed and quickness. He doesn't have the speed to get behind most corners and lacks the explosiveness to beat defenders off the snap, although he is able to use his strength to beat the jam. Bowe occasionally loses focus and tries to run before he secures the ball, leading to unnecessary drops.
ProjectionBowe was consistently good all season and helped himself immensely at the Senior Bowl. If he posts a solid 40 time at the Combine, he'll be a first rounder for sure.

WR is the toughest position to draft in the first round, and my philosophy is that you don't take a receiver early unless he's a physical freak. Bow isn't a freak, though. He's big, solid, and conststent. But he was also part of a great passing offense in college and I wonder how he would have fared at a different school. However, he drops too many balls to be a reliable possesion receiver and isn't a true "home-run" threat.
