Overview

Chaz is a 2005 graduate of North High School in St. Charles, IL where he played for coach Mark Gould. St. Charles North was the 2004 Upstate Eight Conference co-champ. Chaz earned two-time all-area and Second Team All-Upstate Eight Conference honors and also lettered in track and wrestling.

He red shirted at EIU as a true freshman in 2005, but started the last three games of 2006 and graded out at 80% or better. In 2007, he was named first team All-OVC as a guard for the first time and was an honorable mention All-American by the Sports Network. He started all 12 games, grading out at 90 percent for the season and ranked second on offensive line unit with 36 pancakes. He played 678 snaps, and was a member of a unit that ranked sixth in nation in least amount of sacks allowed while blocking for a 1,000 yard rusher.

DID NOT DECLARE.

He also played very well in 2008, and began to draw some serious attention from NFL scouts. His post-season awards are just beginning to come in as of this writing, and they will be considerable.

Strengths

Thick, wide-based, nasty athlete who plays with a chip on his shoulder and really gets after it--especially in the run game. Technically solid, and strong. Quick. Explosive out of his stance. Efficient puller who usually makes solid contact. Delivers a pop on contact. Uses hands well. Phone booth brawler.

Weaknesses

A bit straight-linish. Hips aren't as loose as you'd like to see, and he sets up a bit awkwardly in pass pro. Overall, his technique is solid, but he sometimes takes short cuts and gets lazy or wears down late in certain games, and lets the DT get under his pads. Not the biggest OG candidate around.

Projection

5-6th rounder.
