OverviewMatt Tennant was an All-ACC 2nd Teamer, Rimington Finalist, and also was named to the Lombardi Watch List. He served as a co-captain as a senior, and has started 41 straight games at center for the Eagles. He anchored a line that has historically been one of the best in the nation. Tennant showed very well at the Senior Bowl, and was generally considered the second-most impressive interior lineman (Iupati) during the week of practices.
StrengthsTennant is a long, lean player with excellent athleticism for the position. He has the frame to add bulk at the next level. Ideal player for a ZBS with his ability and skill set. Smart player who makes the line calls. Plays with excellent technique and maintains good leverage with good knee-bend despite being on the tall side for a center. Tennant shows good quickness and explosiveness, and can pack a powerful initial punch. He uses his hands well to control the defender. Tennant mirrors well and shows good balance, rarely ending up on the ground. He has the speed to get to the second level and is a very solid combo blocker. With his size and athleticism, he could be an effective guard as well. Tennant has also proven to be an injury-free player with 41 straigh starts.
WeaknessesTennant almost looks skinny with his height. He'll need a bit more sand in his pants at the next level to deal with more talented defensive players. While he can get to the second level well, he doesn't handle defenders as well in space as he does in tight areas.
ProjectionTennant compares well to former BC center Dan Koppen. His athleticism and potential should allow him to be the second center off the board after Maurkice Pouncey in the 2010 NFL Draft. He could go as early as the second round, but is most likely a solid third round pick.
