OverviewFirst-team All C-USA. Ex-pro (White Sox minor league system) pitcher. Married. Overaged (will be 25 in September). Once played seven positions in a single game.
Ran an unofficial 4.71 at the NFL Combine with a 26" vertical, a 7.00 3-cone, an 11.80 long shuttle, and 28 reps at 225. All of these were among the leaders at the TE position for each drill. The 28 reps was tied for 1st. At the Rice Pro Day he ran 4.80 and a 4.79. StrengthsIncredibly versatile. Signed on at Rice as a safety, then was converted to DE, and finally caught on as an H-back/TE. Has also played at RB, FB, and QB. Not caught 13 TDs this past season, but also ran for another six and passed for two more. Leader. A leader and mentor for his younger teammates. Excellent student. Coach's dream. Selfless. Good hands. Not a blazer, but can stretch the seam. Can even return punts.
WeaknessesSmallish. Did his damage against a lower level of competition. Finesse blocker. Walls off, holding his man to a standstill rather than blowing him off the ball.
ProjectionApparently made his decision to declare early because the advisory board told him he could go as high as the second round. However, I think his size and his age will drive him down. I'd call him a bubble guy between the 3rd and 4th rounds.
