OverviewImpressive physical specimen at the linebacker position who saw time as a starter in his initial collegiate season ... became just the eighth player in UA history to start the season-opener as a true freshman and the first linebacker to do so since Saleem Rasheed in 1999 with a start against Western Carolina in the 2007 season opener ... earned team's Academic Excellence Award in 2007 for his performance in the class room ... 2007 Coaches Freshmen All-SEC selection ... earned the Lee Roy Jordan Headhunter Award for his performance in 2008 spring practice.
StrengthsEarns a lot of attention thanks to being a key part of this defense. Had another great year at the heart of the Alabama defense and gave up his final year of eligibility to declare for the draft. Hits hard and often. Wraps up well. Reads plays as well as anyone.
WeaknessesIsn't the most vocal of leaders even though the example he sets is second to none.
ProjectionDefinite first rounder, somewhere in the top half and possibly even above Brandon Spikes. There, I said it.

Reminds me a lot of Patrick Willis. User: vicdemize Date/Time: 12/8/2009 - 12:21PM CST Predicted Round: Round 1 I will admit that Cody does a great job of keeping this guy clean to scrape an fill gaps. But I also see a prototype MLB in the mold of Brian Urlacher. McClain is the #1 MLB in this draft and I don't even think it's close. He is just as fast as Spikes sideline to sideline. He is better at droping into zone coverage or following a TE. And most important he has the size to stand up to G/C in the inside run game. And he can beat a pulling G/C to the edge disrupting sweeps. Rolando McClain is the real deal and a top 20 pick in this draft. Rate This Player |
