OverviewStanley is a 2004 graduate of Glades Day High School in Sunrise, Florida where he was listed as the country's No. 116 linebacker by TheInsiders.com coming out of school. He had 125 solo tackles and three interceptions as a senior in 2003 and also collected 500 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on offense as a running back. Stanley earned all-area honors and a first-team all-state selection, and he was even named the Defensive Player of the Year by the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel.
At Wake Forest, Stanley redshirted in 2004, and saw three starts while playing in all 11 games as a RS freshman in 2005. He tallied 27 tackles (16 solos) with 1.5 TFLs and a PBU. During his sophomore season in 2006, Stanley compiled 69 tackles, 7 TFLs and 3 FFS, while starting all but one of the 14 games in which he participated. In 2007, Stanley was the starting MLB for all 13 contests, and notched 66 tackles, 3 sacks and a pick. Stanley performed very well at the NFL Combine, running an official 4.61 forty time, posting a 10'1" broad jump, a 11.64 long shuttle and doing 19 reps. Stanley cemented his status as a solid Day 2 selection by displaying 31" vertical jump, a 4.37 short shuttle, 7.02 3-cone drill and 20 bench reps at the Wake Forest Pro Day. StrengthsSolid veteran and citizen who has gotten better ever year. Somewhat overshadowed by the gifted Aaron Curry, but has still made a name for himself as a very tough LB in one of America's toughest conferences. Diagnoses well and flows to the ball. Has good enough size and speed to make his presence felt and to hold up well at the point of attack in the running game. Can play any LB slot, and that versatility adds to his value. Not a real physical specimen, but a solid, fundamentally-sound football player who will not hurt you in any facet of linebacker play. Strong enough to hold his own at the point of attack.
WeaknessesNot a real smooth coverage guy, and is short for the pass defense facet of the game. Must not be matched up with tall TEs with exceptional speed. Does not have game-changing, big-play abilities, but generally gets the job done. Has the look of a career backup who might stick as a starter in the right situation. Could stand to gain 10 pounds of muscle mass.
Projection5-6th rounder.
