OverviewCorey is a 2005 graduate of football factory Don Boscoe Prep in Rutherford, NJ where he was ranked 62nd nationally among offensive tackles by Rivals.com coming out, and was also listed as the 29th-ranked player overall in the State of New Jersey. Wootton was also an all-state, all-county and all-league selection who played tight end and defensive end for the Ironmen. He caught eight passes for 152 yards his senior year and tallied 62 tackles, 5 sacks and 1 defensive touchdown in 2004. Corey helped lead his prep team to two state championships.
Corey redshirted in 2005 at Northwestern. In 2006, he was named to the Scripps Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American and The Sporting News' Freshman All-Big Ten team. He was the team's seventh-leading tackler (51) that year, and their leader in sacks (4.5) and leader in TFL's (9.0). As a redshirt sophomore in 2007, Corey was second on the team with 7.0 TFL's and five pass deflections and second among defensive linemen with 39 tackles. In 2008, he was voted first-team All-Big Ten by conference coaches and second-team All-Big Ten by conference media and was named the recipient of team's Most Valuable Player Award. For the second season in his career, he recorded a statistic in every major defensive category (tackles, TFL's, sacks, pass deflections, interceptions, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, QB hurries and blocked kicks) and finished his junior campaign with 32.0 career TFL's and 15.5 career sacks. In 2009, his totals were: 16/4, 6 TFLs, 4 sacks, 4 QBHs, 2 FF, 1 FR and a BK. StrengthsBig bodied, Richard-Seymour-type 3-4 DE that 3-4 teams will undoubtedly covet. Gets pressure in situations where smaller/shorter guys won't. Uses his long arms to distract the QB or to bat the pass. Good bull rusher for a long DE. Really coils low and then explodes upwards well.
WeaknessesNot as big and strong as Seymour yet, and may never be. Not an elite turn-the-corner rusher at this stage. Not exceptionally quick. CAn be stalemated when he doesn't pay attention or when he loses technique on a given play. Upside guy who is nowhere near the type of player he should be given his gifts. May not work hard enough to ever be a star.
Projection2-3rd rounder with the body and talent, by maybe not the head, heart and overall desire.

I think he will be the #1 3-4 DE drafted. A 3-4 end doesn't need to have Jared Allen speed off the edge. He needs to occupy two blockers in the run game and beat Guards in pass rush situations. There are a dozen teams running 3-4 defense now and this guy will be a cornerstone for one of them. Wooton plays aginst good big10 tackles and has played well. He is big, tall and stout at the point of attack He will fly up draft boards in the next few months.
