Overview

He has drawn comparison to last season's troubled 4-3DT/3-4 DE 'tweener at HU Marcus Dixon: the Penn State transfer has perhaps even more potential but is less polished and powerful. Baker played only one year for the Pirates of Hampton before declaring early for the 2009 NFL Draft. Checkered history. Was kicked off the Penn State team for two misdemeanor assault charges involving 2 separate fighting incidences.

LATE NOTE: Dropped 10 pounds (down to 316) for the Hampton Pro Day and displayed a nice 4.56 short shuttle. He kept the rest of his numbers from the Combine.

Strengths

Strong, agile and quick. Gets after the QB with a bull rush, a club and a swim. Easily defeats most MEAC OTs. May have some position versatility and could play 4-3 DT. Very nice size for a 3-4 DE and can hold the point against the run.

His 5.08 40 time at t=the combine and 35 1/2 Vertical show he has pop, but perhaps he projects to a 1- Gap 4-3 DT

Weaknesses

Short, and not as explosive as some of the short pass-rushing DEs that have been in vogue in recent years. He will need to improve against double teams inside and too often stands around after initial contact. He improve his awareness on misdirections and screens. Has not always been serious about conditioning. Though he flashed some while at PSU he will need to show that his recent increase in production was due to the level of competition at a position he might not play in the NFL. He must have strong interviews to allay concerns regarding
immaturity and lingering character concerns.

To be a 3rd/4th round selection he desperately needed another year at Hampton to show NFL scouts that he had matured as a football player and person, but eschewed that to take advantage of the weak DT/5 Technique class.

Projection

4th round talent who is a 6th round overall package at best, and may go undrafted.
