OverviewBryan Bulaga started 5 of the 6 games he played as a freshman at LG and helped pave the way to some outstanding rushing efforts. As a sophomore, he started all 13 games at LT and earned All-Big Ten honors from a number of publications. He had high hopes as a junior, but was only able to start and play in 10 games because of a thyroid condition. He was still named 2nd team AP All-American for his efforts.
StrengthsBulaga is an ideal physical specimen for the LT position. He is flexible and athletic and uses good technique. A very smart player, Bulaga is also a team leader who plays aggressively on the field. As a pass blocker, he sets up quickly and has a nice kick-slide to mirror defenders. He still needs some work as a run-blocker as he lacks some functional strength in both the upper and lower body to be dominant here. He's able to compensate for this by getting into position quickly and sealing the defenders. Bulaga understands the importance of hand position and leverage, and works to use and improve his technique. Has experience at both LT and LG and could play either in the NFL and play them both at a high level.
WeaknessesThere are a few knocks on Bulaga. One is youth and inexperience. That, clearly, will not be a big issue as he will continue to develop as an NFL. Another knock is his strength, but that is another correctible flaw. Finally, he's had some serious injury issues. He missed a number of games as a freshman and then had a thyroid issue as a junior. This issue is the one that prompted him to leave school early.
ProjectionWith his athleticism and potential to develop into a very good LT, Bulaga should be a first round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft (as long as his medical concerns don't get NFL decision-makers too upset).

Good replacement for Clifton or Tauscher, even though they have improved in the 2nd half of the season. User: Lionsman11 Date/Time: 10/26/2009 - 3:59PM CDT Predicted Round: Round 2 This guy got destroyed against Brandon Graham of Michigan. It wasn't even a matchup. Graham dominated him the whole game acquiring 3 sacks in the first half. User: BUFFALO BILL Date/Time: 06/4/2009 - 7:43AM CDT Predicted Round: Round 1 No Comments Submitted Rate This Player |
