OverviewScotty is a 2005 graduate of Ocean Lakes H.S. in Virginia Beach, VA. Scotty was named a First-team all-district and all-region and second-team all-state as an Ocean Lakes senior. He ran for 1,304 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior and 1,336 yards and 13 touchdowns and had a 240-yard game as a junior. He was also named all-district and second-team all-region as a junior.
At JMU, Scotty was a starter at one CB spot as a RS freshman in 2006 and had 45 tackles, 5 PDs and a pick. As a RS soph in 2007, he tallied 18 tackles, and 4 PDs, but started to really make a name for himself as a KR after returning his second kickoff for a TD. In 2008, he went 30-6-1 and also returned another kickoff for a TD, and added punt returning to his resume, returning three for a TD including the decisive points with one second remaining in a 38-31 win at Richmond with his punt return for a score. Scotty also ignited JMU’s rally from a 21-0 deficit with his 99-yard scoring return to open the second half vs. Appalachian State. StrengthsDeadly punt returned and kickoff returner who can come in and make many rosters with that skill set alone. Improving cover corner who has shown progression in terms of technique and recognition every year at J.M.U. Plays bump and run and has the speed to cover his sins. Breaks up a lot of passes. Both quick and fast. One of the top 3-4 return specialists available for the NFL draft. Good kid who works at it.
WeaknessesLacks size and nastiness to be much of an enforcer in the run game. Can be beat up and abused by big WRs. May never be more than a dime back, and/but doesn't show consistent hands for the pick. May find that the running lanes close a lot more quickly in the return game at the next level, and is no sure thing for a roster spot even as a returner. Will never be a starting corner for a decent NFL defense.
Projection5-6th rounder based on return ability. Free agent as a CB...combined probably a 7th rounder or priority UDFA.
