OverviewVladmir is a 2006 graduate of Stamford (DT) High School who was born in Port au Prince, and is still a Haitian citizen. Vladimir started 20 consecutive games at Stamford High School and was a dominating run blocker who was named First Team All-State by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association and earned First Team All-Fairfield County honors from the FCIAC Coaches. DuCasse was also selected to play in the Governor's Cup All-Star Game against Rhode Island and was also a star in track & field and basketball at Stamford. Fine discuss thrower and shot putter.
At UMass, as a true freshman in 2006, DuCasse saw action in four games as a reserve offensive lineman. In 2007, he earned the starting nod at left tackle in camp and started 12 of 13 games, aiding a UMass line that allowed 15 sacks in his 12 games. In 2008, he again started at LOT, and was the only lineman to start every game that season. DuCasse was part of an offensive line that allowed just six sacks, the fewest in the CAA. In 2009, he continued starting at LOT but was banged up some, and received numerous preseason honors. StrengthsHas nice size and some further growth potential. Fairly athletic guy with above average feet. Upside. Can be a mauler in the run game on those occasions when he successfully locks on. When on his game he is an aggressive hitter and headhunter in the run game. May be better as an OG where he can concentrated on drive blocking, which is his forte. Seasoned.
WeaknessesRaw and has a long way to go. Nowhere near ready to play LOT at the next level as he did in college. Slow getting out of his stance at times. Doesn't seem to read the snap. Herky jerky back pedal, and will actually turn his back to the rush at times. Gets turned far more easily than he should, and then loses. Whiffs completely in pass pro on occasion and is easily deked out with a counter move. Stands around way too much.
ProjectionHas some skills and upside, but has a long, long way to go. Put in the UMaine game if you want the brutal truth on this guy and don't want to just listen to some of the hype that's out there. 6-7th round is probably where he'll go, but UDFA is where he belongs, and that is coming from a CAA scout who loves to CAA guys do well at the next level.
