OverviewShann is a 2005 graduate of Baker High School who was a four-year letterman in football, and his varsity teams had an amazing overall record of 49-1. He was also a two-time all-state selection. As a senior, he passed for 1,059 yards and 15 touchdowns, rushed for 650 yards and 14 touchdowns, and had three interceptions.
Was slated to play some at Montana as a true freshman but suffered and injury and redshirted. In 2006, he played in all 14 games, and in 2007, he played in all 12 games, and although he did not start, he was the team’s 10th-leading tackler. In 2008, Shann started all 16 games, was the team's 2nd-leading tackler, and average .88 PDs/game and tallied 4 interceptions. In 2009, he totaled: 39/51 (3rd) with 2.5 TFLs, 4 ints,6 PBUs,1 QBH,1 FF and 1 FR. StrengthsDoes a lot of things quite well. Special teams/kick coverage is certainly one of his fortes. Comes up and tackles well after quickly diagnosing the run. Makes solid reads. Former walk on who will not be outworked. Sells out to make plays. Compares favorably to former Purdue star, Stuart Schweiger. Rangy and heady.
WeaknessesNot all that fast, big, strong, etc. Just a football guy. May not have enough of anything to ever be more than a nickel back and special teams guy. Not an elite coverage safety. In the NFL, it would probably be far more common to see him making tackles after the catch than getting the PBU/PD. Average over all skill set.
ProjectionPriority UDFA.
