Overview

Garret is a 2005 graduate of Memorial High School in Brick, New Jersey where he was ranked by Rivals.com as one of top 25 players in New Jersey and one of top 35 players in the nation at his position. He was also named one of top 60 players in the East according to Prep Football Report and the No. 26 rated player in the Northeast by SuperPrep. He was a two-time, first-team all-state selection by Associated Press,The Newark Star-Ledger and Gannett. In High School, Garret played tight end and defensive end, as well as punter and kicker. He was named a two-time team captain and team MVP. As a senior he had 25 catches for 604 yards and 10 TDs. His career totals included 96 receptions for 2,031 yards and 21 TDs and he also booted field goals of 45 and 47 yards.

Garrett redshirted in 2005. In 2006, he played in 3 games with no catches. In 2007, he played in all 13 games and started 10 and compiled 30 catches for 328 yards and 4 TDs. As a RS junior in 2008, his line was: 40-540-5. This year (through 11 games) he has 41 catches for 502 yards and 7 TDs.

Strengths

Solid 2-way performer who is an adequate and emerging blocker, and an above average receiver. Really has a knack for the endzone and has 16 career TD catches as of this writing (12/5/09). A big target who knows how to use his body to box out and make room for the ball to get only to him. Runs nice routes for a big man, and can split the seam. Camps at the goal line, and wins the jump ball. Productive at a high level for a long time. Improving blocker who has the size and frame to keep improving.

Weaknesses

Not yet a polished blocker and has not been used enough as an in-line blocker to have proved he will be effective in this area at the next level. Not a blazer and does not have elite moves to create separation. Needs to get stronger.

Projection

Under-rated and solid Big-10 TE prospect with updside who is climbing the charts and should be among the first 5-6 TEs drafted.
