OverviewMcLaughlin tore an Achilles tendon in the spring leading up to his senior season, but he battled back and played most of the 2009 campaign. He finished third on the team with 56 tackles. As a junior in 2008, he was voted as a defensive captain and started 14 games at MLB, racking up 89 tackles, including 12 for loss. Really emerged for the first time as a RS sophomore in 2007 when he started three games. Played sparingly in 2006 and then missed the last 4 games with injury. Earned an invite to the 2010 East-West Shrine Game, where he impressed. Also will show his wares at the 2010 NFL Combine.
StrengthsMcLaughlin had to carry the load after the Eagles lost All-American candidate Mark Herzlich to cancer in 2009. He's a lunchpail player who gives full effort in everything he does. He's a solid run-stopper. He can use his hands well to shed blocks and keeps his legs clean in pursuit. He reads the action well and can meet the back in the gap. He's a respected leader on the team as well.
WeaknessesMcLaughlin is limited athletically. He doesn't exhibit much in the way of speed and has only average quickness. He's a real liability in passing situations and is really a 2-down player. Doesn't play with great balance and ends up on the ground too often.
ProjectionMcLaughlin was a productive, smart player at BC and will need to show some athletic ability and an indication that he is fully recovered from injuries in order to get drafted in the latter stages of the 2010 NFL Draft.
