OverviewHard-hitting, big and fast, Amaya was a key playmaker for the Wolfpack defense and a 2nd Team WAC performer. As team captain, he led the team with 89 tackles and 10 pass break-ups in 2009, and was co-leader in tackles in '08 with 68. A walk-on who became a starter as a freshman and can play both safety or cornerback. Has combine invitation.
StrengthsBall-hawk who finds ways to make the play. Blazing speed and good cover technique put him position to be solid in coverage as a cornerback. Reads the run and quickly rolls-up to the ball as a safety. Sure-handed tackler.
WeaknessesPlays soft on occassion giving-up short passes. Needs to break on ball better. Has played at 3 DB positions - teams will need to determine 'where he fits.' Better in run-support as a safety than corner.
ProjectionLate 5th or early 6th round. Needs to demonstrate excellent coverage skills to raise his draft position.
