OverviewStrong and powerful player who has improved throughout his career • Posted 29 tackles for losses and 12 sacks during his career • Set UNC record in the squat (670 lbs.) for a defensive end.
StrengthsEmerged as a leader on a talented UNC line after starting for three years at LDE. Play improved every year. Versatile player who could fit into either a 30 or 40 front. Exceptional pass rusher who gets off the snap well and shows a variety of moves to beat the O-lineman. Shows the balance to drop his shoulder and bend the corner when taking an outside rush. Has a solid anchor at DE and is a good run defender. He stacks and sheds and is a sure tackler once he gets his hands on the ballcarrier. Excellent work ethic and has shown good durability.
WeaknessesBig player who, understandably, doesn't have great lateral quickness and struggles to change direction. Lacks the ideal length for a 34 end. Despite this, he'll still play too upright at times and doesn't have the strength to overcome the leverage disadvantage in these circumstances.
ProjectionEJ Wilson really emerged during his senior season and has climbed the draft boards. In a draft devoid of top dual-threat DEs, look for Wilson to go anyhwere from the late 3rd round to the late 4th round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
