Overview

Stevie is a 2006 graduate of Columbus East H.S. in Columbus, Indiana where he was a four-year starter. Limited to just three games of action as a senior due to an ankle injury but still rushed 43 times for 199 yards and scored four touchdowns, and added six catches for 125 yards and three TDs. He gained 1,700 all-purpose yards as a junior and scored 17 TDs. Stevie was named a first-team all-state selection as a senior and was tabbed as a member of the Indiana Football coaches' Association Top 50. He also participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and was named all-state by the Indiana Coaches Association as well as by the AP during his junior campaign. Ranked as a four-star prospect and the nation's No. 7 safety according to Rivals.com and tabbed as the No. 9 defensive back by PrepStar Magazine, and listed as the second-best player in the state of Indiana by Rivals.com coming out of H.S.

Stevie never redshirted, and will be a 21-year-old rookie in the NFL. He contributed 14 tackles in limited action as a freshman backup at Safety in the fall of '06. In 2007, he contributed 28 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, two pass breakups and one interception and led the Wolverines with 11 special teams stops. As a junior in 2008, Stevie started all 12 games at safety, posted a career-high 64 tackles, was third on the team with eight special teams stops and also contributed 1.5 TFLs, one sack, one fumble recovery, two interceptions and five pass breakups.

Strengths

Big hitter who sniffs out the run quickly and will plant WRs and running backs at the LOS or in the backfield. Also lurks in the backfield and blows up crossing routes and middle screens, etc. Adequate in coverage and can handle simple schemes/assignments well. Enough size to hold up at the next level. Decent 2-way player with decent technique in all phases. Productive at an elite level, and has contributed for four years and gotten better each year.

Weaknesses

Not an elite coverage guy. Will struggle if asked to play 1-on-1 with NFL wideouts. The quick and shifty ones will get away from hin, and the big ones and TEs may win with their size against him. Average hands.

Projection

6-7th rounder who could climb if he shines at the Combine.

Predicted Round: Round 7

Very hard to evaluate. Watched cut ups of three games. Seems very solid in fundamentals, but nothing jumps out. Appeared to be concerned about others' assignments. Solid tackler, solid play anticipation, can cover TE's. Constantly played close to the LOS in Michigan's scheme. Will get drafted late by a team with a scheme that can use his strength's: Easily slides away from larger blockers to make tackles near LOS.
