OverviewSherrick is a 2006 graduate of Richwoods High School in Peoria, IL where he earned all-state honors from the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette and from the Illinois Football Coaches Association. Sherrick was also a first-team Peoria Journal Star all-area and all-conference selection. He helped the Knights earn a berth in the Illinois state playoffs three consecutive years. McManis played primarily at tailback and defensive back, but was also a dangerous kick and punt returner. He earned a spot in the IFCA's Shriners All-Star game and won the Illinois state long jump his junior year.
As a true freshman at Northwestern in 2006, Sherrick had 22 tackles, picked off a pass, and returned 11 kicks for a 21.0 yard average. In 2007, he put up 51/24, 6 TFLs, a sack, 7 total PDs, another pick and a FF. In 2008, his line was: 53/14, 2 picks, 12 other PDs and a FF. In 2009 he went: 24/10, 1.5 TFLs, 4 interceptions, 7 breaksups and a forced fumble. StrengthsTallish corner who provides pretty decent coverage, but prefers playing off. Has a corner's speed and overall pass-defending instincts, but a safety's hips. Aggressive in run support. Hands for the pick. Has made some big plays against top competition.
WeaknessesMay not be big enough, fast enough, strong enough, aware enough, or anything enough for a job as more than a career nickel/dime guy. Solid all around college DB who will need to show better-than-expected flexibility and one-on-one coverage ability in post-season testing to warrant more than a passing look.
ProjectionShould be drafted late, but everything will depend on the 3 months leading up to the draft.
