OverviewEarly declaree Junior defensive end who started all season for the first time in 2009 opposite Cliff Matthews. Is now a well-seasoned DE, despite being a very young late bloomer, seeing action in 24 of the 25 games over the past two seasons. Comes from a tremendous family tree of football standouts. Prepped at Hargrave Military Academy with current South Carolina DT Ladi Ajiboye.
Before declaring for the draft, Clifton made his junior season his best statistically, and showed that he continually works to improve, and that he actually does improve every season. In 2008, he put up 29 tackles (17) solo, with a sack and a half. In 2009, he put up 27/14, 8.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, 1 PBU, 1 PD, 5 QBHs, 1 FR, and 2 FFs. StrengthsTremendous upside. Very, very young. (Will be a 20-year old NFL rookie.) Rare size and can get even bigger without losing agility and speed. Very fast for such a big man. Looks like Richard Seymour getting off the bus. Reportedly is aiming to run in the low 4.7s at the Combine at 305+ pounds. Has the size, length, wingspan (7'0") and frame to be a 315-325 pound 3-4 DE terror. Would also be able to play a penetrating 4-3 DT. Great belief in himself and clearly wants to work hard and show what he can do. Has some unique and effective pass rush moves. Terrific genes. Has a very strong family tradition of hard work and clean living. Off-field issue early in the 2009 season has been blown out of proportion. Very personable young man despite rumors of shyness. 10-11% BMI, with a self-reported 38" vertical and 28+ reps. Jumpy and other family members will keep him on the straight and narrow, and (we hope) keep the "wine, women and song" that comes with the big NFL contracts from ruining him.
WeaknessesOnly one year of starting experience in college. Still very raw, and needs to get stronger and add technical aspects to his game that are still lacking. Should bat more balls to the ground. Should get to the QB more regularly. Has no resume to justify our ranking of him. Everything is based on his enormous potential, and he still might blow it. Has shown flashes of brilliance but nothing sustained. Should have gone back for his senior year in our humble opinion, even though CDS was the first organization to predict (Oct. 2009) that he would come out and flash early-round potential. Size may be a detriment in the wrong system. MUST GO TO A PATIENT TEAM WITH STELLAR LINE COACHES.
Projection1st round with a solid Combine showing. Could go undrafted if he bombs. How's that for a spread??

Date/Time: 03/22/2010 - 9:00AM CDT Predicted Round: Round 1 Good kid, comes from family that has been in the NFL (Jumpy) and Robert(Bengals). You cannot teach height and that arm length. The guys arms are almost 38 inches versus every other D-Lineman close at 35-36.The guy also ran under a 5.0 at 300 lbs.A 3-4 DE who should be a better pro than all the expert have him rated. User: RichEisenIsGod Date/Time: 02/21/2010 - 9:01AM CST Predicted Round: Round 4 Could be a very solid 3-4 defensive end in a few years. User: Lionsman11 Date/Time: 01/19/2010 - 2:00PM CST Predicted Round: Round 3 He's listed at 6,8 281. He has had some off the field issues and he is considered by most to be a little bit of a project. Still an amazing talent and should be a great NFL player someday. Rate This Player |
