Overview

2010- One of the top quarterbacks in the nation coming into the 2010 season. Very, very high potential.

2009- Started every game of the season up until he injured his shoulder in a game against Clemson. Showed continued improvement from 2008. Went 227 for 330 (68.8 completion percentage), 2717 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions (four of his seven interceptions came in the game he hurt his shoulder). Remained a dual-threat quarterback (ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns), but eased his way into becoming a better passer.

2008- His first season as a starting quarterback. Led Florida State to a nine-win season and was named the offensive MVP at the team's award dinner. Went 117 for 318, 2006 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Even ran for 423 yards and four touchdowns.

2007- Was forced into action after starting quarterback Drew Weatherford was injured in the 2nd quarter of a game at Virginia Tech. Ponder went 8-18 for 105 yards and a touchdown.

2006- Redshirted as a true freshman.

Strengths

A prototype quarterback. Has ideal height, weight, arm-strength, and natural athletic ability that you look for in an NFL quarterback. Makes decisions in the pocket very quickly; if he doesn't see anyone open, he tucks and runs (which he is very good at). Has a cannon of an arm and puts just enough touch on the ball to keep it catch-able for his receivers. A natural leader and gets it done on the field.

Weaknesses

One of the first things I noticed about Ponder (and probably his only weakness) is his lazy release. He doesn't step into his throws well enough and relies too much on his arm to cover the distance. Needs to do a better job planting his feet before he throws, as he's often times caught throwing off his heels.

Projection

Though he certainly has the capability to make into the first round, he probably won't make it because of his mechanics. However, he'll definitely find his way in either the second or third.
