Bates is smart and a good athlete, he was a HS QB and had a 4.0 GPA. This season he had a 41 yard average with a long of 67 yards. This year was a bit of a down year.

Strengths

Though there was a drop in raw yardage Bates 21 of 59 times pinned the opponent inside the 20. He is largely self-taught and is still improving.

Weaknesses

Had 2 blocks this year and despite being a good athlete is not always sure how to save a bad situation.

Projection

If Bates has a great year he could be a late round selection, he can still get better in terms of placement and hang time, but he has terrific intangibles and an impressive work ethic.
