OverviewSon of James "Jumpy" Geathers who was a dominant defensive end in his time, and one of the stronger players ever to play the game. First cousin of South Carolina 5-tech Clifton Geathers (also in this draft).
Spent two years at the JUCO level at one of the smallest junior colleges in America (Feather River CC in Quincy, CA) before transferring to UCF and playing on a fine D-line along with Torrell Troup and Co. the past two seasons. 16.5 sacks over the past two seasons, and a First-team ALL C-USA nod for his body of work in '09 has him on most everyone's radar screens now. Should have run in the 4.7s with a mid 30's V.J. during his Pro Day, but is battling a detached quad, and will not be able to workout before the draft. StrengthsA poor man's Ricky Sapp. Can rush the passer effectively with a nice first step, and solid closing burst. Pretty strong (in that Geather's tradition) and the genes are there. Finishes on the pass rush. Can probably drop and play the 4-3 OLB slot. Looks to have the lateral quickenss to transition. Versatile. Family influence is positive and strong.
WeaknessesKind of a 4-3 pass-rush specialist/OLB tweener. Injury was a total blowout of the quad, and will have to be assessed. Has limited experience at the spot his size and build suggests he should play, and may never transition to coverage responsibilities effectively. Should recover fully, but was no speed merchant to begin with....
