OverviewTravarous Bain is a terrific athlete and his father is Tolbert Bain, so good bloodlines, but there are questions about if he has discipline or sure tackling for zone coverage. He looks a little like former Cowboy Rod Fellows with a reedy build that may not hold up against the T.O, Fitzgerald, and Chris Chambers-types he'll face on Sundays. But in man coverage he is a thing to behold, with loose hips, long limbs and pure speed.
Bain transferred from Miami (Fla.) for '05: 1st team All-MEAC w/28 TT, INT, 13 PBU, 8-212-26.5 KR. 1 TT in '04. 1 TT in 7 games in '03. Redshirted '02. Ran track for Miami. He was a two-time selection to the All-MEAC First Team, picking off a team-high five passes and breaking up six others in 2006. In the 2005 season he appeared in nine games on the year, starting the final eight at cornerback. Was selected First Team All-MEAC after leading the conference and ranking fourth in Division I-AA in passes defended with 1.56 per game and made a splash in his Hampton debut on Sept. 24 against Morgan State at the New York Urban League Classic, breaking up 13 passes and intercepted one, andhis 13 breakups were the second most in the country. Bain recorded at least two pass breakups in five of his nine games, with a season-high three at Norfolk State. Also he returned his only interception 72 yards against Gardner-Webb… registered a season-high seven tackles (3 solo) against Richmond in the opening round of the I-AA playoffs and also returned eight kickoffs for 212 yards for a team-high 26.5 yards per return… his 51-yard return versus Savannah State marked his longest of the season. 2004 Season At Miami (FL): Bain saw action on special teams and as a reserve defensive back … Credited with one tackle on the season … As a member of the 2004 Hurricanes Track & Field squad, Bain competed in the 55 meters, 60 meters and 200 meters during the indoor season … Competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100 meter relay during the outdoor season. High School Travarous helped lead his team to the state championship game against Apopka with a 13-2 overall record … Picked off 11 passes for interceptions over the last two seasons (seven as a junior / four as a senior) … Credited with 34 tackles as a senior (2001) … Ranked as the No. 36 player overall in Florida by the SuperPrep … Rated the 59th best player in the nation, regardless of position, by Tom Lemming’s Prep Football Report … A member of the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game … Also an accomplished track & field athlete … Named as a two-time Foot Locker All-America performer. StrengthsBain has legitimate speed, quick feet, smooth hip turn, and impressive late acceleration as the ball is in the air. He has exceptional ball skills and solid hands to pick the ball. He has added value as a returner.
WeaknessesNot a great tackler and does not seem to relish run support.
ProjectionNo later than the first half of round 4, more likely late round 3.

Date/Time: 01/31/2007 - 5:34PM CST Predicted Round: Round 3 I think he could be the next great small scholl small program defensive back. Sort of like Ronald Bartell, Rashean Mathis, Daniel Manning, or Michael Pittman. Has the will and where with all to make plays all over the field. Has the speed to cover elite WR's. Leaping ability isn't D. Hall or C. Bailey but he sure can get up there. Can defintly catch the ball at its highest point. Also isn't afraid of the running game. Willing to make the tackle against bigger backs. Will start in a few yaers. Rate This Player |
