Overview

Gaines Adams enters the 2006 college football season regarded as one of the best defensive ends in the nation. His combination of speed and strength as well as refined pass rushing moves make him practically impossible to block. Plays the "Bandit" position in the Clemson defense.

Strengths

Gaines Adams is a great pass rusher that gets a good job off the ball and has tremendous agility and pass rushing moves. He understands the intricacies of the position and knows how to use his opponents body position against them. As the "Bandit" he plays all over the field and sometimes drops back into coverage. Very versatile.

Weaknesses

Adams is a little undersized for the defensive end position in the NFL but has the frame to add on some weight. Doesn't always like to play the run preferring to sack the quarterback. That won't cut it at the next level if he wants to play every down.

Projection

Gaines Adams projects very well to the next level with his tremendous versatility. If he is unable to successfully gain weight he could make a stellar 3-4 OLB in the mode of a Shawne Merriman or DeMarcus Ware. Projects to go early in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

Very overrated. He probably lacks the ability to cover much ground, and so he'll need a 4-3 system to be successful. He's a good athlete, but he's nothing special against the run and I question how he'll do against great linemen in the NFL.

he is a round one but im not sure if the Vikings will take him. The Vikings may trade down. This all depends really on wat happens in those first days of free agency

Absolutely love him. He is the best pure pass rusher in the draft. Reminds me of a lot life Leonard Little. Pure and unadulterated speed off the edge. He has the power to bull rush smaller tackles and the speed to beat the bigger ones. I love his size at 6'4 and 265 lbs. He also has the frame to add 10-15lbs. Can play either strong or weak side. Most likely will play against the weak, but I think he is better suited to play J. Peppers and L. Little side, the strong side. Gaines is also super athletic. Once he learns the NFL game and gets used to the speed of the game he'll be able to drop back into coverage like Peppers does. He will be a star, had he come out last year he would have been the 2nd DE taken and gone in the top 10, maybe to Detroit, Buffalo, or even Oakland. Gaines Adams will get 8-12 sacks in his rookie year. The NFL prototype DE.

I would love this gut to end up in Atlanta, they are my team and we need some DE because Abraham is always hurt and Kerney might not re-sign, Adams is the best DE in the draft and would be a huge addition to the Falcons team

Adams is a Over Rated Prospect in my Eyes. He is a great Pass Rusher, he just has a knack for getting the QB. But he is Small, not that Strong, dosnet use his hands well as u would like, and foot work gets spotty, tends to get dominated by Bigger stronger Tackles. With the Trend of moving DE's to LB in todays NFL with the Emergence of players like Ware, Lawson, Wimbley, and Merriman he is better suited to be a Stand up OLB, and he has had exspirence Dropping back in coverage at Clemons.
