OverviewA top 50 prepster coming out of High School, Darius Heyward-Bey entered college with impressive measurables. After red-shirting in 2005, Heyward-Bey was selected as a First Team Freshman All-American by several scouting servies in 2006. Heyward-Bey followed up his first season with another impressive season earning All ACC honors in 2007. Heyward-Bey is an impressive athlete with the potential to be one of the best WRs in the nation.
Really impressed at the Combine, running the fastest official forty of anyone invited (4.30) and looking good in drills. StrengthsHas tremendous straight-line speed and excellent run after the catch ability. Makes something out of nothing after the catch. Is very quick in and out of cuts and may be the best receiver in the draft in terms of getting separation in press coverage. Has incredible leaping ability, with a 40" vertical leap. Adequate at catching the ball away from his body and will fight in traffic. Game breaker.
WeaknessesCould stand to get stronger and has frame to add 10 pounds without losing speed. Must become a better route runner and improve concentration across the middle. Doesn't seem to like blocking, and is not very good at it. Has always been "the man," and must yet prove he can adjust to being "a guy" on a TEAM at the next level. Average hands at this stage of his career. Depends on his speed too much, and takes things for granted.
ProjectionIf he proves up that 4.23 speed with post-season timings, Heyward-Bey could easily be one of the first WR's off the board. Currently a late 1st Rounder/early 2nd rounder.
