OverviewPatrick Robinson earned quick playing time as a backup CB as a true freshman, playing in 12 of the 13 games. In his sophomore year (2007), he started 5 games at RCB (played in 12) and led the team with 6 INTs and earned All-ACC honors from various publications. As a junior, he started 8 of 13 games at RCB, but had only 1 pick for the season. Returned for his senior season in 2009 and started all 12 games he played in. He finished 5th in tackles and led the team with 11 passes defended. He failed to record an INT and missed the Georgia Tech game with a sprained ankle. Senior Bowl invitee. Measurements - arm: 30.5" hand: 8.5" Notes: Lean with a wasp waist and tapered back.
StrengthsPatrick Robinson possesses good size and elite speed and quickness at the CB position. He's able to run with any receiver and has excellent closing speed. Robinson is a good leaper who will go up and challenge the receiver. Generally likes to keep the action in front of him, but can be effective in press coverage as he's a physical player who can jam the receiver at the line. Robinson is also a willing run stopper who shows a quick see-to-do and can shed blocks and get to the ball carrier. Robinson shows good football instincts. He was a former track star in HS and that speed was evident when he ran down Noel Devine with ease in the bowl game this past winter.
WeaknessesLike many elite athletes, Robinson relies too heavily on his athleticism in college games and can get burned as a result. His poor footwork is mind-boggling. Some feel that he gets lazy at times and will give up easy catches. Robinson also plays with a bit too much aggressiveness at times and will get flagged for it. Despite his outstanding skills, he's only accounted for one INT since his sophomore season. His ball awareness is clearly lacking. He needs to be more of a difference maker.
ProjectionPatrick Robinson is a bit of an enigma. He could be the next Darrell Revis or the next Terry Fair. He possesses elite measurables and ability at the position, but it doesn't always translate onto the field. He'll still be an early pick in the 2010 NFL Draft (anywhere from late first to early third round), but needs to ensure teams that he wants to be the best CB in the league.

Date/Time: 01/15/2010 - 9:00PM CST Predicted Round: Round 2 Classic "better athlete than football player", though when he is focused he can be a legit blanket. Plays bigger than his size. Confident. Dive-arm tackles too much but he's very good at cleaning up as the second guy in. Rate This Player |
